St Paul's Church was established in Kaikoura in 1877.
It was 1879 when the first stage of this building was opened.
The first minister was Reverend William McAra, a Scottish missionary student, who stayed for 45 years!
In 1890 the second stage of the building was added and the pipe organ installed.
The first members were mainly of Scottish origin.
The first 20 years saw the Church grow to around 250-280 people attending worship services in the Parish on a Sunday.
In the late 1980s the new foyer was built to include a kitchen and toilet.
